School District U-46 job fair set for Jan. 24-25 in Elgin
School District U-46 will hold a job fair from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 25, at the U-46 Welcome Center, 1019 E. Chicago St. in Elgin.
The district has a number of full- and part-time jobs its seeking to fill, according to an announcement on the district’s website. Competitive wages are offered, and there are opportunities for professional development and growth, the site said. Onsite interviews will be conducted at the event.

Winter Fringe Fest being held Jan. 25 at Side Street Studio
Side Street Studio Arts and the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission will hold the sixth annual Winter Fringe Festival from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court, Elgin.
Attendees can bring a potluck dish to share with fellow audience members and performers, according to the Side Street Studio Arts website. The performers will be Augie Marado, Ramona Rotten and Haus of Ruckus.
Tickets in advance are $13 per performance and $35 for a three-show pass. If purchased at the door, the price is $15 per performance and $40 for a three-show pass.

Elgin History Museum hosting trivia night ‘fun-raiser’
Elgin History Museum will be hosting its third annual trivia night “fun-raiser” from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in its Old Main building, 360 Park St.
Teams will be asked to answer a wide range of Elgin-related topics as part of a friendly competition, according to the museum’s website.
Wine, beer and light snacks will be served. Teams of up to four people will play three rounds answering multiple choice and fill-in answers. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Rakow Regatta cardboard boat race to be held Feb. 15
Registration is underway for the Rakow Regatta, a cardboard boat race to be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Rakow Center’s indoor pool, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
The event is open to all ages. Participants design and build human-powered cardboard boats capable of racing 50 yards, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. All boats must be constructed before race day and powered by canoe or kayak paddles or muscle power.
Registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 10. The entry fee is $5 per boat for Dundee Township residents and $7 for nonresidents.

Registration underway for annual Elgin Valley Fox Trot in June
Registration is being taken for the 48th annual Elgin Valley Fox Trot 10 Mile and 5K races, which will be held Sunday, June 1, on new course routes.
The event is organized by the Kenyon Farm Runners, a local running group. Elgin Lions Club members stage the races, a news release said.
Volunteers from the nine area nonprofits receiving event proceeds will work at the races. A post race party will include an awards presentation, expo, live music, dancing, free beer for drinking-age runners, treats for the kids and food trucks.
The 10-mile race will start at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 7:40 a.m. Early registration fees are $45 for the 10-mile race and $30 for the 5K race. Anyone 19 or younger can enter the 5K race for $20. The cost will increase closer to the race date.
