Rev. Andrew Love named pastor at Progressive Baptist Church

The Rev. Andrew Love was installed as the new pastor at Progressive Baptist Church in Elgin in a ceremony held Sunday.

Love, a native of Chicago’s West Side, was ordained in 2004 and has served in various roles at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, including deacon board treasurer, youth and adult Sunday school teacher, and leader of the prison ministry, according to a news release.

He holds a master’s degree in biblical studies from Moody Bible Institute and worked in social services for more than 35 years before retiring from DuPage County Senior Services, the release said.

Love replaces longtime Pastor Willie Tate, who died Sept. 18, 2023, at the age of 79.

The church honored Tate with a throne unveiling and a pastoral robe preservation ceremony in February. The Rev. Willie L. Tate Memorial Scholarship was established through the United Black Scholarship Fund.
