Ribbon-cutting for renovated Millennium Park set for Wednesday

A ribbon-cutting event will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, to unveil renovations made at Elgin’s Millennium Park, 725 Red Barn Lane.

The $700,000 project was partially funded with a $338,000 Illinois Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant, according to city officials. Improvements include several new ADA-compliant amenities, artificial turf, a new playground, a basketball half court, butterfly garden and fitness equipment, according to a social media post.

Latino Elderwerks Senior Expo being held at Schock Centre

Senior-centered nonprofit Elderwerks will be hosting a free Latino Senior Expo from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at The Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

Various organizations will be onsite to provide information on local services for seniors. They include Elderwerks Educational Services,  Advocate Sherman Hospital, Oak Street Health, Abcor Home Health Inc., The Grove Fox Valley, Humana, Parkinson’s Foundation and United Healthcare.

Elgin Community College hosting job fair this Friday

Elgin Community College’s Hire Spartans Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Building J Events Center on the Elgin campus, 1700 Spartan Drive.

This is the first time the free event is being held in person since 2019, according to a news release. Attendees will be able to meet and network with local employers from various industries and fields and with representatives from employment support organizations.

Senior Services Associates holding Disney-themed fundraiser

Senior Services Associates’ Disney-themed fundraiser and dance will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Heritage Ballroom at The Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

This event supports the work done by the nonprofit for Elgin-area seniors, veterans, disabled adults and caregivers, according to the Senior Services website.

Attendees are encouraged to wear something Disney-related to the event. Tickets are $55 for the general public and $45 for seniors.
