Rock the Fox music festival this weekend in Carpentersville

Rock the Fox, a free music festival hosted by the village of Carpentersville and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Century Lodge 492, will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2-3, in Carpentersville’s Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave.

Performing Friday night will be Universal Slim & The Blues Kangaroos, Mike Wheeler Band and Shattered. The Saturday lineup includes Kevin Mantegna, The Beautiful Disaster, War Pigs, Boneshaker, The Outfit and La Banda Rico.

Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Elgin City Council election petitions available at clerk’s office

Petitions are now available for Elgin residents interested in running for Elgin City Council seats in the April 25 election.

They can be obtained from the Elgin City Clerk’s Office, Room 202 at Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court. Filing starts at 8 a.m. Oct. 21 and ends at 5 p.m. Oct. 28, with the time of filing dictating position on the ballot.

There will be four four-year terms available. Candidates must be a registered voter, an Elgin resident for at least one year, up to date on their tax bill and other city debts, and “not convicted in any court located in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury or other felony, unless eligibility has otherwise been restored as provided by law,” a news release said.

If 16 or more candidates file to run, a primary election will be held Feb. 25.

Friends of Fox River fundraiser being held at Bandito Barney’s

No Clean Water No Good Beer, the annual fundraiser for Friends of the Fox River, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Bandito Barney’s, 10 N. River St., East Dundee..

This event provides funding for the nonprofit group, which is dedicated to preserving, restoring and protecting the Fox River, a news release said.

Guests will sample wines, coffees, local craft beers and appetiziers, and a silent auction is planned. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door.

Aug. 15 deadline set to seek parkway trees from city of Elgin

Elgin homeowners wanting to have the city plant a tree in their parkway this fall must submit the necessary paperwork by Thursday, Aug. 15.

The program is free to property owners, according to a city social media post. The city provides watering and mulching for the first year, plus ongoing trimming services upon request.
