South Elgin offering  spring and summer pickleball leagues

South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department’s six-week pickball leagues start this week at Sperry Park, with a second session set to start in July.

League play is scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. time slots, according to a social media post. Each game will have a 45-minute time limit.

The Tuesday and Thursday leagues started this week, with a second session starting in July 10 and July 12 respectively. The Saturday leagues begin May 24 and July 12.

South Elgin residents pay $50 and nonresidents’ cost is $65. Players must bring their own paddles.

U-46 high school graduations set for Saturday at NOW Arena

School District U-46 high school graduation ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 24, at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates.

Elgin High School will start off the day of ceremonies at 8 a.m. followed by Bartlett at 11 a.m., Larkin at 2 p.m., Streamwood at 5 p.m. and South Elgin at 8 p.m.

New this year, all guests ages 2 and older will be required to have a ticket to enter a ceremony, according to the U-46 website. Each graduating student will receive 10 tickets.

Graduates, families and guests should arrive 45 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. To reduce parking and traffic problems, students and families are asked to ride together so there are fewer vehicles.

The Festival Park splash pad in downtown Elgin has opened for the summer, and other area splash pads and pools will be doing the same this Saturday and next.
