South Elgin Parks and Rec hosting ‘Puzzle Palooza’

The South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a “Puzzle Palooza’ competition from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Riverside Pizza and Pub, 456 Redington Drive, South Elgin.

Teams of up to four players each will receive an identical 500-piece custom puzzle that they will vie to complete in two-and-a-half hours, according to the South Elgin website.

The puzzles will be revealed simultaneously to signal the start of the competition. If no team finishes within the designated time, the winner will be determined by the fewest pieces left unassembled.

Participants must be 18 or older. The entry fee per player is $5 for South Elgin residents and $7 for nonresidents.

Registration starts for Frozen Oaks 5K at Randall Oaks

Registration is underway for the Frozen Oaks 5K, which will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Randall Oaks Golf Club, 4101 Binnie Road, West Dundee.

All pre-registered participants will receive a race swag bag that includes one ticket for a chili bar to be available at the Randall Oaks Golf Clubhouse and one drink ticket that can be redeemed for a soda or adult beverage, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. A Frozen Oaks 5K sweatshirt is guaranteed for all pre-registered runners.

Awards will be given to the overall men’s and women’s winners as well as the top three finishers for both men and women in each age division.

‘Valentines for the Animals’ at Randall Oaks Zoo on Feb. 9

Randall Oaks Zoo will host a “Valentines for the Animals” event from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9

Participants will celebrate the zoo’s animals by making them Valentine’s Day treats and them, according to the zoo’s website.

The cost is $15 per child, with one parent allowed to participate with a child for free. For information and to register, go to www.dtpd.org/kids-family-programs.

Elgin daddy-daughter dances and tea time set for Feb. 7-8

Tickets are on sale for the Elgin Parks and Recreation Department’s Star Wars-themed daddy-daughter dances taking place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 7-8 and for a Star Wars-themed tea time from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

All three events will be held in the Heritage Ballroom at the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

The evening events will feature music, dancing, a raffle with an American Girl Doll grand prize, kid-friendly catering, immersive decorations and character appearances, according to the city of Elgin website. Attendance is open to children ages 2 to 17.

The tea party will feature Star Wars-inspired treats, light refreshments, music, character appearances, and arts and crafts. It’s geared toward children ages 2 to 8.

Tickets for the dances are $50 for a pair (one adult and one child), $30 for each additional adult, and $20 for each additional child. Tickets for the tea party are $35 for a pair (one adult and one child), $20 for each additional adult and $15 for each additional child.
