‘Zooperheros’ animal show at Hawthorne Hill center
A live animal show, “Zooperheros,” will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin.
The show will discuss how many animals have superpowers, from keeping the forest floor clean to keeping pests away from homes, according to a post on the city of Elgin’s website.
Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero costumes. Admission is $6 for Elgin residents and $8 for nonresidents. To register, go to elginil.gov/253/Programs.

State Rep. Moeller hosting coffee at Elgin library
State Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, will host a coffee stop from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Roll-N-Donuts Café inside the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
Moeller will be discussing pending state legislation and the major state issues to be considered by the new 104th General Assembly, according to a news release. She will also answer questions and discuss local issues.
“I encourage everyone who’s interested to join me to learn more about our legislative priorities and help shape what we will be working on in the months ahead,” Moeller said in the release.

Ride in Kane fares to increase starting Feb. 1
The fares for trips of more than 10 miles for those using the Ride in Kane program will increase by 50 cents per mile effective Saturday, Feb. 1.
The total cost will be $2 per mile with the rate increase, according to a news release from the Kane County Division of Transportation. The hike is necessary in order to continue delivering the ride services, which have been provided to county residents 65 and older and persons with disabilities since 2008, the release said.

West Dundee Boy Scouts holding spaghetti dinner
West Dundee Boy Scout Troop 32 will hold its 22nd annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the gym at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 345 W. Main St., West Dundee.
Tickets are available from troop members or at the door, according to the troop’s website. The cost is $10 per person and free for children age 6 and younger. Prizes will be raffled at the event.

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Feb. 28, for the 2025 Annual Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire Community Service Awards.
The awards recognize organizations and individuals who volunteer their time to make Hanover Township a better place to live, work and raise a family, according to a news release.
