A 57-year-old Evanston man is being charged with two felony first degree attempted murder charges after shooting at two of his family members on Greenwood Street near Hartrey Avenue, Evanston police said, adding that no injuries were reported.
Police said John Ross Sr. of the 2300 block of Greenwood Street, Evanston, shot at two of his family members, ages 34 and 48, on May 3. Following a verbal altercation in Ross’ home, the two men went outside and got into a van and Ross came out shot and at the van, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Ross surrendered to the authorities without incident, according to police. Shell casings were recovered at the Greenwood Street scene and ballistic evidence from the van. An uninvolved family member was also in the home, and safely exited it.
After the shooting, the victims’ van had four bullet holes and a flat tire.
In a search of Ross’ home, Evanston police found ammunition, but no firearms.
Per the state’s attorney’s office, Ross is a four-time convicted felon.
Cook County Court Judge Anthony Calabrese approved the Cook County State’s Attorney’s request that Ross remain held in custody during the pre-trial process. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
