Evanston man charged with possessing child pornography, per US Attorney

An Evanston man was federally indicted on charges of child pornography,  the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois said in a news release. If found guilty, he could serve up to 40 years in prison.

A grand jury approved a six-count indictment against Emad Saghir, 42, of Evanston, in mid-September. According to the news release, Saghir was arrested on Oct. 11.

According to the indictment, Saghir possessed child pornography involving a prepubescent minor and a minor under the age of 12 in his Google email account in 2023. On several occasions in 2023, Saghir also transported images of child pornography using his computer, the indictment said.

Transporting child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison and a maximum of 20 years, per the news release. Possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor is punishable by up to 20 years.

Saghir pled not guilty to the charges at his first detention hearing on Oct. 11. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.
