An early morning fire resulted in $800,000 in damage to a Naperville home in the 2700 block of Willow Ridge Drive, according to the Naperville Fire Department.
Fire crews arrived at 3:57 a.m. Monday to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the home and up through the attic, a news release said.
It took about 90 minutes to quell the blaze, with firefighters having to take a defensive approach using multiple handlines and elevated master streams due to ensure the fire didn’t spread to nearby structures, the release said. The alarm was upgraded to a box alarm to call in additional firefighters.
Fire crews remained at the scene for another three hours to extinguish remaining spot fires and conduct overhaul operations, the release said. The fire department’s drone team assisted in locating active and hidden fires.
The man, woman and two children who lived at the residence escaped without harm but the house was deemed uninhabitable by the city’s Transportation, Engineering and Development department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In addition to the Naperville Police Department, fire crews were assisted by the Lisle-Woodridge and Warrenville fire protection districts, the Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Wheaton and Westmont fire deparments, the Naperville Electric Department and Nicor. Oswego Fire Protection District provided Naperville station coverage during the incident.
