Fatal crash in Homewood leaves 1 dead, police say

A 26-year-old man was killed in a fatal collision early Sunday morning in Homewood, police said.

Andre Walker, of Carbondale, was killed while riding as a passenger in a grey Chevrolet Trax that crashed into landscaping rocks and a village sign Dec. 29, according to a news release from the Homewood Police Department.

Homewood police and firefighters responded at 2:38 a.m. to the 17500 block of Dixie Highway to a report of a single vehicle crash, police said. The vehicle was traveling north on Dixie Highway before it left the road, crashing into the sign, police said.

The driver and two passengers, including Walker, were transported to hospitals, police said.

Walker died at 3:32 a.m. at Advocate South Suburban Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The crash is being investigated by the Homewood Police Department and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team, according to the release.
