Officials say no one was home when firefighters arrived Wednesday night to put out the “rapidly spreading” fire at a house in Buffalo Grove, a dwelling that stood vacant and under repair after a previous destructive blaze left it uninhabitable.
According to a village of Buffalo Grove news release, the fire department was dispatched to the 2100 block of Brandywyn Lane at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday – with flames “visible from a distance.”
The call initially indicated a nearby Silver Linden Lane address but emergency responders were redirected to the correct address, the release states.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the entire second floor of the two-story house was fully engulfed, with heat from the blaze affecting the houses on both sides of the one on fire, according to the release.
Firefighters worked to “simultaneously” extinguish the home they were called to, as well as the two next door, with fire spreading quickly, officials stated in the release. The fire was struck about 30 minutes later with the aid of other area fire departments.
“The house where the fire originated had a partial collapse of the second floor, and the neighboring homes both sustained damage in the form of melted vinyl siding,” officials stated in the release.
There were no injuries reported.
Authorities explained in the release that the house where the fire started had been vacant and under repair after a fire in August 2022 left the home uninhabitable. An investigation into that fire from 18 months ago revealed that it was caused from candles left burning in the home.
The cause of this second blaze is under investigation, officials stated in the release.
