Expect a little bit of Park City in Chicago this summer. The first-time film series Sundance Institute x Chicago 2024 is coming June 28-30, according to an announcement Tuesday by city tourism agency Choose Chicago.
The event will be a partnership between the Sundance Institute — the presenter of the annual Sundance Film Festival and as founded by Robert Redford — and Choose Chicago and the Chicago Film Office. According to the announcement, the weekend-long event will include:
- Screenings of four films from the January 2024 Sundance Film Festival (seen in Chicago for the first time) as well as Q&As with filmmakers.
- A film program and masterclass for emerging and underrepresented filmmakers.
- Panel discussions at the Chicago Cultural Center and other venues, plus presentations about the Sundance Institute.
According to the announcement, Sundance Institute x Chicago 2024 will be the institute’s first such program outside of Park City, Utah. More details about all events, including how to participate, will follow. The Chicago Film Office, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, is charged with putting together the panel events with a focus on the filmmaking industry in Chicago.
