Food vendor with CCL fatally shoots armed man on West Side, police say

A food vendor with a concealed carry license shot and killed an armed man in the Austin neighborhood Friday night, according to Chicago police.

The food vendor, a 35-year-old man, was approached around 8:50 p.m. on the 300 block of South Central Avenue by an unknown man.

There was a brief struggle between the two men, where the attacker pulled out a gun, police said. The food vendor then produced a firearm, and exchanged gunfire with the second man, police said.

The second gunman suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Demitrius Manning, 34, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The vendor was wounded in the right arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Police said they recovered two firearms at the scene, and detectives were investigating.
