Fourth Paws and Claws Rally for Rescues event scheduled for Sept. 21 in Evanston

Evanston’s Paws and Claws will be hosting its annual Rally for Rescues community event next month at  Baker Park.

Those looking to meet some furry friends and maybe take a new best friend home can stop by Baker Park on Evanston’s south side on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Executive Director Ashlynn Boyce said the event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Regular CTA Purple Line riders may be familiar with Paws and Claws, Evanston’s first cats-only adoption center, as it sits right across Chicago Avenue from the Main Station stop. Passersby can peek through the front windows and see some of the adoptable felines at 829 Chicago Avenue.

The nonprofit opened in Evanston in 2023 after beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Boyce organized a network of volunteer foster families that quickly grew while families were stuck at home.

The nonprofit focuses on adopting out cats from regional rural areas of southern Illinois, Michigan and Indiana who have been marked for euthanasia. Feral cats are also treated there with a tap, neuter and release method to keep their numbers under control and vaccinated.

Along with adoptable kittens, other event highlights include silent auctions and raffles, live music, outdoor games and face painting, merchandise sales and the opportunity to meet Northwestern University athletes.

Tickets to the event can be purchased online for $25. Boyce is also looking for event sponsors and can be contacted at ashlynn@pawsandclawscatrescue.org.
