Fox-napped: Search is on to find Paige, the Dundee Library mascot who’s been missing June 8

There’s been a fox-napping at the Dundee Library.

The fox in question, named Paige, is of the stuffed animal variety. She went missing June 8, library spokeswoman Corrine Vargas said.

Paige was last seen with her fox partner, Turner, as part of a display atop the old card catalog cases on the East Dundee library’s main floor.

A sign has been added to the display and messages posted on social media seeking Paige’s return but so far the library mascot has not turned up. The stuffed toy has sentimental value for both the staff and library patrons, Vargas said.

“(Paige and Turner) were knitted by a library friend as a gesture of encouragement after the library lost the 2016 (tax increase) referendum,” Vargas said.

The public was asked to help name the stuffed animals in March 2017. More than 150 suggested names were submitted, and the winners announced the following as part of National Library Week.

Library staff just want the doll returned, and no questions will be asked of whomever drops Paige off with an employee or at the customer service area, Vargas said. The same holds true for anyone who has information about the toy’s whereabouts and calls the library at 847-428-3661, she said.
