One weekend after planes roared over Northwest Indiana en route to the Chicago Air and Water Show, high flyers will be back for the Gary Air Show on the city’s Marquette Park lakefront.
The show will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 17-18.
The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will headline the event. Other performers will include Ed Hamill in the Folds of Honor Biplane, Bill Stein Airshows, Kevin Coleman in his Extra 300 aircraft, Bob Richards and ‘Machaira’ – Muscle Biplane, Randy W. Ball in a MiG 17F, Warbird Thunder and Trojan Phlyers T-28s.
The city of Gary is collaborating with the Gary/Chicago International Airport, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, and other local partners to put on the event.
Marquette Park, in Gary’s Miller neighborhood, will be the main viewing location for attendees and the place for food, vendors, and beachfront activities. Residents and visitors will have access to parking and shuttles directly to the lakefront park. On-site parking is $40 for the day or $60 for the weekend.
Air show staging will take place at the airport, as in past years.

Last year’s show was dampened by rain, but sponsors were still pleased at the crowds.
The SSCVA provided $100,000 for the show as did the city. About $300,000 came from corporate sponsors.
