A Gary man is accused of dealing cocaine.
Last month, Djuan Anthony Reedus was charged with two counts of dealing cocaine in amounts less than 1 gram, a Level 4 felony; two counts of dealing in cocaine, a Level 5 felony; possession of methamphetamine of less than 5 grams, a Level 5 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; and maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony.
His bond was set at $50,000, or $5,000 cash surety. He bonded out of the Lake County Jail on Sept. 26.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a confidential informant told police they could purchase crack cocaine from a man they knew as Djuan Reedus.
On Sept. 10, Gary police met with the informant at a planning location, where the informant said they had already arranged a crack cocaine deal with Reedus. Police searched the informant for drugs, weapons and money before providing them with cash, and an audio and video recording device, records state. Police took the informant to an area near 2200 block of Cleveland Street, where the controlled purchase was scheduled to take place. The informant walked into the residence and interacted with a man before the informant left and met up with police, the affidavit states. The informant provided police with a white, rock-like substance without packaging, which the informant said he received in exchange for an agreed-upon amount of cash. The informant identified Reedus in a photo lineup, records state.
The white, rock-like substance tested positive for .21 grams of cocaine.
Another purchase was arranged for Sept. 12, when the informant said they had again set up a crack cocaine purchase with Reedus, court records state. The police searched the informant before equipping them with a recording device and cash. The informant was transported to the area of the 2200 block of Cleveland Street. The informant met up with Reedus at a residence before departing with a white, rock-like substance, which was determined to be .28 grams of cocaine, the affidavit states.
Police obtained a search warrant for the residence in the 2200 block of Cleveland Street in Lake Superior Court. On Sept. 23, police executed the warrant, records state. In the residence, they found a plastic bag containing six pills, which weighed 3.57 grams and tested positive for methamphetamine. Reedus’ name was on a utility bill for the Cleveland Street residence, court records state.
In 2009, Reedus was convicted of dealing in cocaine in federal court in Hammond.
