Gary man gets probation after firing shots at ground in Highland

A Gary man got one year on probation Feb. 21 after pleading guilty to criminal recklessness, records show.

Trevor Kirk, 20, said he fired three gunshots in Highland at the ground after a motorist honked at him, saying he was scared he would be “jumped,” according to a criminal affidavit.

The incident happened on June 15, 2022, on the 8400 block of Parrish Avenue.

Highland Police said Kirk initially lied about being shot at, later admitting he had fired a gun. He said he had been jumped several times in Gary and only fired the weapon at the dirt to “scare” the other person away, the affidavit states.

The case was before Judge Natalie Bokota. Deputy Prosecutor Lindsey Lanham was assigned. Defense attorney Timothy Bianco represented Kirk.
