The Crown Point Fire Department Dive and Rescue Team was called to Ridge Road in Gary for a potential drowning Monday, the agency confirmed.
Pamela Jones, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, also confirmed the drowning report. Jones declined additional comment because the sheriff’s department did not work on this case.
Gary’s police and fire departments were both not available to immediately comment Monday afternoon.
Ryan Cusack, Crown Point’s deputy fire chief, said in an email to the Post-Tribune that the team was dispatched to the 3900 block of Ridge Road at 1:37 p.m. Monday. Agency personnel left the scene at about 3:11 p.m., Cusack said.
The department had four members of the dive team and two paramedics on scene.
Cusack did not comment on additional details of the case, including if the victim survived, the victim’s identity and if foul play was suspected.
The Gary Police Department is expected to release the incident’s details later, Cusack said.
