Gary Police arrest two in connection with Jan. 21 shooting

Gary Police arrested two men in connection with the death of a Chicago man and wounding of two others in a January 21 shooting on Delaware Street.

Members of the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, along with the Gary SWAT Team, on January 29 served a search warrant at a residence in the 6300 block of Tennessee Street in Hammond, Gary Police Spokesman Cmdr. Jack Hamady said in a release Wednesday night. There, a Gary K9 officer located a man hiding in the basement.

Two men were taken into custody, Hamady said.

Gary Police responded around 10:28 p.m. January 21 to a call for a possible gunshot victim at home in the 2100 block of Delaware Street, the Post-Tribune previously reported. They arrived to find a 22-year-old woman who’d been shot, he said.

Moving inside, officers found a 26-year-old Gary man unresponsive in the kitchen; a third man had been shot in the abdomen.

The woman, who police discovered was from East Chicago, and the other man, 31 from Chicago, were taken to Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake Campus for their injuries, though the man was taken by a private party. Firefighters attempted to revive the second man, but he died.
