Gated house on Lake Michigan in Winnetka on the market for $10.3M

A six-bedroom, 5,500-square-foot house on Lake Michigan in Winnetka was listed on Sunday for just under $10.3 million — $3.3 million more than its owners paid for it in 2022, but below the $12 million that a previous owner had paid for it in 2018.

Built in 2015, the gated house is owned by Tom Day, the CEO of top U.S. beer distributor Reyes Beer Division, and his wife, Amanda. They paid $7 million in 2022 to buy it from Neil Fitzpatrick, who co-founded quantitative trading firm Headlands Technologies. Fitzpatrick, who separately bought a lakefront mansion in Kenilworth in 2020 for $11.75 million, had paid $12 million in 2018 for the lakefront Winnetka mansion that the Days now are trying to sell. Fitzpatrick lost $5 million on the Winnetka mansion during four years of ownership.

The two-story Winnetka mansion, which is listed for sale in an agents-only private network, has six full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, high-gloss Farrow & Ball lacquered walls, Schumacher wallpapers and a great room with finely paneled cathedral ceilings and a wood-burning fireplace with a black marble surround.

The house also has a first-floor primary suite with two walk-in closets, a dining room with a walk-through lounge and a kitchen with new Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, a custom stainless steel and brass hood, custom scullery and a large Farrow & Ball island with thick quartzite countertops.

The neo-Georgian-style home’s lower level has a sports simulator room, a theater, an office, a lounge, a gym and a guest suite.

Outside on the property are a three-tiered, terraced patio with lake views, a bathing veranda and a sandy beach.

Listing agent Jena Radnay of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate could not be reached for comment. However, Radnay has been an outspoken promoter of lakefront properties and their scarcity, and in early February, she told Elite Street that she is predicting an acceleration in high-end residential real estate sales in the first and second quarters of the year.

Indeed, Radnay is the new listing agent for Morris Silverman’s seven-bedroom, 15,784-square-foot lakefront mansion in Winnetka, which earlier was listed for $18 million but recently was relisted at just under $12 million. She also is the listing agent for retired investment banker Muneer Satter’s lakefront spread in Winnetka, which is on the market for $35 million and which currently has a contract inked to sell it. And she’s also the listing agent for a six-bedroom, 9,723-square-foot lakefront mansion that is available for $9.75 million.
