The Geneva City Council recently voted unanimously to include on the April 1 ballot a referendum question asking voters whether the city should issue up to $68 million in bonds, which would be used to renovate or construct new public safety facilities.
The City Council voted during a special meeting Jan. 13, as it was the last day for the City Council to approve the measure in order to get it on the spring ballot.
Plans for the funds include building a new police station and new Fire Station 2, as well as renovating existing buildings.
Now, whether to issue the bonds goes to the voters.
“This is just getting the question on the ballot,” Geneva City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins said at the Jan. 13 meeting.
According to the meeting agenda, the city plans to hold town hall-style community events and tours of the relevant facilities in advance of the April 1 vote.
