Glenview police arrested Randy A. Silver, 68, on Nov. 11 and, after an investigation, authorities charged him with a hate crime and other charges, according to a police press release. A hate crime is a felony in Illinois.
The investigation revealed that Silver, of the 3800 block of Chester Drive, Glenview, sent harassing text messages to his former doctor due to the doctor’s perceived religion, according to the press release.
Glenview Police Sgt. Carly Gaba said the messages to the doctor started Oct. 30, which prompted the first police report. Silver’s last physical visit to the doctor was on Oct. 29.
Silver also left the doctor a threatening voicemail, per the press release.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges for Hate Crime, Harassment through Electronic Communication, and Resisting Arrest, according to Glenview police. Silver was taken to a hearing at the Skokie Courthouse on Nov. 12 and released from custody after the conditions hearing for his felony charge, per Gaba.
According to the press release, the Glenview Police Department believes this to be a targeted, isolated incident and no known threat to the public exists.
