Glenview police investigating the death of a Niles man struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle

Glenview police are continuing to investigate a crash in which a bicyclist died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in the north suburb last week, authorities said.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Aug. 15, Glenview police responded to the 800 block of Milwaukee Avenue for a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle, police said in a release Thursday.

They said a preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist, Baldomero Martinez, 39, of Niles, was riding northbound in the median when he turned into the southbound lanes of traffic and was struck by a southbound 2017 Toyota Avalon in the curb lane. Martinez, was transported to Lutheran General Hospital by the Glenview Fire Department in critical condition, said the release. It said there were not any injuries reported inside the vehicle and that there are currently no charges against the driver.

Martinez remained hospitalized at Lutheran General Hospital until being pronounced deceased on Aug. 21, the release said. It said the crash remains under investigation by the Glenview Police Department with assistance from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force’s Major Crash Assistance Team (NORTAF MCAT). Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Glenview Police Tip Line at 847-901-6055.
