The Goodman Theatre on Wednesday shared some casting news for upcoming productions, including who will be filling the shoes of Ebenezer Scrooge in its beloved holiday production of “A Christmas Carol.”
Longtime Chicago actor Christopher Donahue will play Dickens’ miser in the upcoming 47th annual production at Goodman, directed by Jessica Thebus (Nov. 16 to Dec. 30). He takes over from Larry Yando, the face of Scrooge downtown on Dearborn Street for 16 years.
In addition, Harry Lennix will play attorney Henry Drummond and Alexander Gemignani will be prosecuting attorney Matthew Harrison Brady in “Inherit the Wind,” the 2024-25 season opener, directed by Goodman resident artistic associate Henry Godinez (Sept. 14 to Oct. 13). The famous play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee is about the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial.
Yando moves across the street to the Nederlander Theatre to play Severus Snape in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” beginning Sept. 10.
