Grayslake woman killed in Gurnee semi crash

A Grayslake woman died Tuesday after her car was hit by a semi in Gurnee, according to police.

The identity of the woman, 63, has not yet been released.

The woman was on U.S. Route 41 at about 11:50 a.m. in the left-turn lane for northbound Delany Road, when she left the turn lane and drove into the southbound lanes of Route 41. Her Honda sedan was then hit by the semi, which was headed south.

The semi pushed the car through the intersection and into a pole. Firefighters had to extricate the woman, who was trapped in her car. She was brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.

Police are not sure why the woman exited the turn lane before the collision. The incident remains under investigation.
