A Gurnee man died from the injuries he sustained in a single-car accident early Saturday, according to Lake County authorities.
The identity of the man, who was 26, has not yet been released.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, he was driving a Mercedes Benz east on Stearns School Road in the Gurnee area at around 2 a.m. when he drove off the south side of the road near Mill Creek Drive.
Police said his car struck a tree. Firefighters had to extricate the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said.
He was brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center with critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
