Hammond board launches school chief search

The Hammond School Board is beginning a search for its next superintendent with a team composed of educators from four state universities.

After the departure of embattled school chief Scott Miller in July, the school board appointed Brent Wilson, former superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County, as interim superintendent.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 31, according to a Tuesday news release. Interviews could begin as early as January.

The applications will be screened by the University Search team which includes officials from Indiana State, Ball State, Purdue and Indiana universities. The release said the search team works at no cost to the district.

Applications can be found on the district’s website, the Indiana Department of Education Nimble website, the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents’ Job Vacancies, and the  Indiana Association of School Boards’ Job Postings sites.

Parents, community members and school staff can offer input in an anonymous survey available at www.hammond.k12.in.us.

Inquiries related to the application or survey should be directed to Dr. Terry McDaniel at tmcdaniel@indstate.edu or 812-821-7252.
