Hammond police investigate shooting outside bowling alley; two injured

Hammond Police are looking for two men involved in a shooting outside a bowling alley on the city’s north side Sunday evening.

Officers were called around 7:45 p.m. September 22 to Olympia Lanes in the 4100 block of Calumet Avenue for a shooting, spokesman Capt. Steve Kellogg said in a release. They arrived and found a 37-year-old Chicago man who’d been shot multiple times after an altercation with two men, he said.

The victim, Kellogg said, was bowling with his family when he got involved in a confrontation with two Black men who were believed to have been at a baby shower at the same time. The two men opened fire, hitting the victim several times as well as a 31-year-old woman who was treated for minor injuries, he said.

The man was taken to a Chicago hospital, where he remains in serious condition, Kellogg said. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Dan Bates at (219) 852-2979.
