Hammond woman killed in domestic incident

A Hammond woman was shot and killed in what police are calling a domestic incident late Friday night.

Hammond officers at around 10:05 p.m. February 28 went to an apartment in the 6600 block of Nebraska for a domestic call, Hammond Police spokesman Cpt. Steve Kellogg said in a release Saturday. They found a woman with a fatal gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene, he said.

Police arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old man, without incident, he said.

There were two children — ages 10 and 8 — in the apartment at the time who are being cared for as police continue to investigate, Kellogg said.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones, and we will ensure that the person responsible is held accountable,” said Hammond Police Chief William Short.

Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the Hammond Police Department at 219-852-2906.
