One of the newest little pumpkins in the neonatal intensive care unit at Advocate Children’s Hospital has already blazed a trail to victory as a tiny hero, winning the annual Halloween Bash costume contest.
Outfitted in an adorable red knit firefighter costume, with a coordinating knit hat and tiny black booties, newborn Jaylin, of Harwood Heights, won the contest Advocate hosts for its babies in the NICU.
Advocate runs two children’s hospitals – one in Park Ridge and another in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.
Jaylin and a Chicago newborn who placed second will both receive a package of not-so-spooky baby toys for winning, Advocate officials stated in a news release.
Families with babies in the NICU worked with their child’s care team to safely get the newborns in costume. They then submitted photos, which were shared on Advocate Children’s Hospital’s Facebook page. The photos with the most reactions by a set deadline were deemed the contest winners,” according to the release.
But, “they’re all winners in our eyes!” officials stated in the release.
“Celebrating the resilience of our NICU patients and their families is the most important part of this annual event, as they truly are superheroes every day,” Michelle Tracy, chief nursing officer of Advocate Children’s Hospital, stated in the release. “Helping our tiniest patients participate in their first Halloween is one small way we can bring smiles and joy that families in the NICU so deserve.”
