A shooting death in Hazel Crest that was ruled a homicide resulted in no charges being filed after the shooting was determined to be in self-defense, according to police.
Hazel Crest police said Friday they responded just before 10 p.m. Feb. 2 to the 2200 block of West 170th Street for a report of shots fired and a gunshot victim.
Police said a 48-year-old man with gunshot wounds was taken to a hospital and later died.
Information about the victim was not available Friday from the Cook County medical examiner’s office because his family had not yet been notified.
Police said a person was taken into custody, and it was learned the shooting stemmed from a dispute. The state’s attorney’s office, after review, did not approve charges because the shooting was in self-defense, police said.
Separately, a 37-year-old Robbins man was shot and killed Jan. 30 in the 14500 block of Sangamon Street in Harvey, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The office said Ramzy Issac Essex, of the 4100 block of West 135th Place, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead just before 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30.
Additional information was not available from police.
