Hickory Hills police said they killed a suspect in an armed robbery Thursday night in a shootout near 95th Street and Roberts Road.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection, which includes two gas stations, a Walgreens and a Byline Bank, at about 8:45 p.m. The suspect fleed on foot and fired at an officer with a handgun, police said.
Hickory Hills police said in a news release the officer returned fire, and the suspect continued firing while fleeing into an alley.
Police found the suspect with a gunshot wound to the head and took him to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released the name, but listed him as 42 years old.
An officer was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and later released, police said.
Hickory Hills police, an Illinois State Police task force and the Cook County medical examiner’s office continue to investigate, police said. Hickory Hills police would not provide more information Friday morning.
