For millions of people in the United States, the challenges that come with buying a home escalate because they have limited to no credit, and immigrants are particularly vulnerable given that they have no credit score when they come to the U.S. Various private and federal mortgage lenders and the government-sponsored mortgage financer Fannie Mae are trying to make it easier by allowing applicant’s on-time rent payment histories and other similar payments help qualify them for a home loan.
