‘I wasn’t expecting that from a school environment.’ Wearing a hijab for the first time this fall, Lisle student says she was shocked by an aide’s comments.

In October, 15-year-old Zoya Shaik felt like she was at a point in her life where she was ready to start wearing a hijab. Just one week later, a paraprofessional’s remarks at Lisle Senior High School prompted Shaik and other students to speak up to the District 202 board about their experiences of discrimination and to promote anti-bullying efforts.
