National Weather Service officials said the freezing drizzle and icy conditions in the Chicago area are expected to end as temperatures rise to the low 40s Thursday.
Patchy fog was in portions of Chicago and the surrounding areas but also was expected to end before 9 a.m. While the icy conditions ended before daybreak Thursday, officials still urged commuters to use caution while navigating outside.
Morning conditions at Midway Airport are fog and mist at 31 degrees. Farther north at O’Hare International Airport, conditions are overcast at 32 degrees, officials said.
Some untreated roadways may still be slippery, so officials urged commuters to remain cautious while traveling.
Highs in the low 40s are expected Thursday but wintry conditions could return Saturday, officials said.
