Illinois man charged with fatally stabbing Gary roommate

A Lansing, Illinois, man is charged in Indiana with fatally stabbing his roommate.

Christopher R. Jordan, 37, is charged with murder in the Feb. 1 death of John Walker-Spencer, 33.

Jordan was recently extradited from the Cook County Jail, records show. His next court date is Friday before Lake Superior Judge Gina Jones.

Gary Police responded Feb. 1 to an apartment on the 2400 block of Waverly Drive where they found Spencer lying in the living room, stabbed in the abdomen. He was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospitals in Gary.

It was ruled a homicide by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

A woman told investigators that she was on the phone with Jordan when the stabbing happened, Lake County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force Det. James Nielsen wrote.

He just moved in with Spencer recently. They appeared to have argued, she said.

Spencer told Jordan to call 911, saying he wouldn’t blame Jordan.

“He’ll be alright,” Jordan said.

The woman said she hung up and called 911.
