Indiana man charged with stealing more than $100,000 from elderly Naperville resident, police say

An Indiana man has been arrested on felony theft charges for allegedly stealing more than $100,000 from a Naperville resident for whom he was supposed to be working as an in-home aide, Naperville police said.

Beyond that, police said, Zoran Tasevski, 43, of Chesterton, Indiana, failed to pay bills, provide care and do other work for which he was hired. As a result, the victim’s mortgage was not paid for nearly two years, the gas to the home shut off and the victim hospitalized for pneumonia and dehydration, police said.

Tasevski was taken into custody on Jan. 23 with the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service and Chesterton Police Department and charged Monday with one count each of aggravated identity theft, a class X felony, and theft, a class 1 felony.

The police investigation began in October 2021 when a family member of the Naperville resident reported that Tasevski allegedly “failed to fulfill his obligations and abused the elderly person’s trust,” the report said. He had been hired to help the victim, who is over 60 years old, with household chores and make sure basic monthly bills were paid on time, police said.

Tasevski was given access to the victim’s finances and personal information in 2019, and allegedly used it to apply for credit cards for which he added himself as an authorized user, police said.

The total loss sustained by the victim was more than $100,000, the report said.
