Individuals from powerhouse programs Marmion and St. Charles East highlight the first team selections of the all-area team.
Boys First Team
Ben Alvarez, Yorkville, senior, 215 pounds: Finished third in Class 3A. Powered Foxes to runner-up finish in the dual team state meet. Two-time all-area. Committed to Harvard for football.
Jayden Colon, St. Charles East, senior, 144: Captured second straight Class 3A state title and third overall. Illinois recruit went 44-5. Won conference, regional and sectional championships.
Ben Davino, St. Charles East, senior, 132: Ohio State recruit ends career as one of most accomplished wrestlers in state history. Went 54-0 and won fourth straight state title.
Ty Edwards, Yorkville Christian, senior, 132: Beat defending state champion Gauge Shipp for Class 2A state title. Finished 48-2. Repeat all-area selection. Committed to Gardner-Webb.
Joey Favia, Marmion, sophomore, 215: Came up just short in quest for state title, losing in overtime in Class 3A. Finished 37-7 while winning regional and sectional championships.
Ino Garcia, Batavia, senior, 120: Took third in Class 3A. Earned third career medal at the state meet. Ended up 28-6, also winning conference, regional and sectional championships.
Nicholas Garcia, Marmion, sophomore, 113: Downed defending state champion Dom Munaretto for Class 3A state title. Finished 47-5. Won conference, regional and sectional titles.
Tyler Guerra, St. Charles East, senior, 138: Injury derailed attempt for third straight state medal. Indiana recruit went 46-2. Repeat all-area. Also won conference, regional and sectional titles.
Aidan Huck, Batavia, senior, 144: Ended up fourth in Class 3A. Went 43-7. Won conference, regional and sectional championships.
Dom Munaretto, St. Charles East, freshman, 106: Took second in the state to Marmion’s Nicholas Garcia, going 50-3. Repeat all-area. Won conference, regional and sectional titles.
Noah Quintana, West Aurora, senior, 157: Two-time state qualifier ended up taking fourth in Class 3A. Went 31-8 to push career record to 108-22. Also won regional championship.
Kamron Scholl, Kaneland, senior, 120: Won his first 44 matches this season on way to finishing fifth in Class 2A. Ended up with 48-3 record. Secured conference and regional championships.
Dominic Serio, West Aurora, junior, 150: Overcame a knee injury to finish fourth in Class 3A. Won a regional title and reached sectional final in finishing with a 33-4 record.
Zach Stewart, Marmion, sophomore, 138: Defeated Lockport sophomore Justin Wardlow in Class 3A state championship match. Finished 30-8 and also won regional title.
Girls First Team
Yamilet Aguirre, Yorkville, senior, 125: Earned third state medal by taking fourth. Finished with 28-3 record. Also won regional championship. Two-time all-area selection.
Angelina Gochis, Kaneland, freshman, 105: Precocious talent shows moxie, toughness and skill in capturing state championship. Finished 47-5. Also won regional and sectional titles.
Sydney Perry, Batavia, senior, 145: Went undefeated for third straight season in winning state championship, this time with 41-0 record. Unbeaten in four years against female opponents.
Kameyah Young, West Aurora, sophomore, 100: Lost 1-0 heartbreaker in state championship match. East Aurora transfer went 32-4 and won second straight medal at state meet.
