Introducing the 2023-24 News-Sun Girls Wrestling All-Area Team

Repeat state medalist Ava Babbs is among four wrestlers from team champion Lakes on the first team.

FIRST TEAM

Gianna Arzer, Grayslake Central, sophomore, 120: Won two matches at state. Went 37-11.

Ava Babbs, Lakes, senior, 125: Pinned Yorkville’s Yamilet Aguirre to win her second third-place medal at state. Went 32-1.

Ileen Castrejon, Zion-Benton, senior, 190: Defeated Lakes’ Josephine Larson to win the state title and earn her third state medal. Went 25-1.

Naomi Foote, Zion-Benton, junior, 145: Finished sixth at state. Went 39-11.

Olivia Heft, Lakes, senior, 120: Placed fifth at state to earn her second state medal. Went 33-4.

Ayane Jasinski, Grant, senior, 110: Followed up her 2023 state title by beating Litchfield’s Rilynn Younker to win the third-place medal at state. Went 22-4.

Josephine Larson, Lakes, junior, 190: Followed up her fifth-place finish in 2023 by earning the second-place medal at state. Went 32-8.

Zaryia Mouzon, Lakes, senior, 105: Won two matches at state. Went 35-6.

Sajra Sulejmani, Stevenson, senior, 145: Two-time state medalist won two matches at state. Went 11-8.
