Introducing the 2024-25 Beacon-News/Courier-News Boys Basketball All-Area Team

Top players from Waubonsie Valley and Kaneland, the area’s best, headline the first three teams.

First Team

Tyreek Coleman, Waubonsie Valley, senior, guard: Averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals. Repeat DuPage Valley MVP. Unanimous all-conference. Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 4A first team all-state. Committed to Illinois State.

Marshawn Cocroft, Kaneland, junior, guard: Averaged 17.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Voted Interstate Eight Conference’s player of the year. IBCA Class 3A third team all-state.

Hudson Kirby, Geneva, senior, forward: Averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocked shots. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Parkside.

Mason Lockett, Oswego East, junior, guard: Averaged 16.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 deflections. All-conference.

Moses Wilson, Waubonsie Valley, senior, guard/forward: Averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.7 steals. Unanimous all-conference.

Second Team

Jax Abalos, Batavia, senior, guard/forward: Averaged 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds. Made 39% of 3-pointers, 80% of free throws. Unanimous all-conference. IBCA Class 4A special mention all-state. Committed to Cornell.

Travis Brown, West Aurora, sophomore, guard: Averaged 13.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.1 steals. Voted Upstate Eight West’s player of the year.

Freddy Hassan, Kaneland, senior, forward: Averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 blocked shots. All-conference. IBCA Class 3A special mention all-state.

Jayden Riley, Yorkville Christian, junior, guard: Averaged 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists. Made 85% of free throws. IBCA Class 1A first team all-state.

Tre Watkins, Metrea Valley, junior, guard: Averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Unanimous first team all-conference.

Third Team

Jake Johnson, Burlington Central, senior, forward: Averaged 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals. Scored more than 1,000 career points. Program’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made (196) and steals (235) and second in rebounds (602). All-conference. Committed to Missouri Southern for baseball.

Martin Ledbetter, Hinckley-Big Rock, senior, forward: Averaged 21.0 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.1 blocked shots. Has program-record 2,046 points and 1,354 rebounds, one of 16 players in Illinois High School Association history to top 2,000 and 1,000, respectively. Unanimous all-conference. IBCA Class 1A second team all-state.

Terrence Smith, West Aurora, senior, forward: Averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals after joining team Jan. 4 following arthroscopic knee surgery. Led Blackhawks’ 16-1 run to close season 21-9. Three-time all-conference. Committed to Iowa for football.

Ethan Vahl, Oswego, freshman, guard: Averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Made 66 3-pointers. Shot 80% free throws. All-conference. IBCA Class 4A special mention all-state.

Marcus Wallace Jr., East Aurora, junior, forward: Averaged 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds. All-conference.
