Introducing the 2024 Beacon-News/Courier-News Girls Volleyball All-Area Team

Oswego, the top team in the area this season, leads the way with three selections on first team.

First Team

Haley Burgdorf, St. Charles North, junior, outside hitter: Had 611 kills, 268 digs, 48 aces and 44 blocks. Repeats as Beacon-News/Courier-News Girls Volleyball Player of the Year. First team all-state. Committed to Penn State.

Ava Flanigan, Oswego, senior, setter: Had 772 assists and 36 aces. Set program records for career assists and single-season assists. All-conference. Honorable mention all-state.

Leah Freesemann, Burlington Central, senior, outside hitter: Had 239 kills, 197 digs, 41 aces and 28 blocks. All-conference. Committed to Campbell.

Brianna Gritzman, Burlington Central, senior, libero: Had Fox Valley Conference-leading 370 digs, 72 assists, 49 aces and six kills. All-conference.

Sidney Hamaker, Oswego, senior, outside hitter: Had 354 kills, 162 digs, 43 aces and 20 blocks. Set program career records in kills and aces. Conference MVP. First team all-state. Committed to Long Beach State.

Mia Jurkovic, Oswego, senior, outside hitter: Had 261 kills, 198 digs, 46 aces and 17 blocks. Two-time all-conference. Second team all-state. Committed to Western Michigan.

Mia McCall, St. Charles North, junior, setter: Had 816 assists, 171 digs, 62 kills, 52 aces and 25 blocks. Honorable mention all-state.

Teagan Rokos, Batavia, senior, defensive specialist: Had 376 digs, 79 assists and 48 aces. All-conference. Honorable mention all-state.

Katie Schuele, Metea Valley, senior, setter: Had 785 assists, 149 digs, 82 kills, 58 aces and 27 blocks. DuPage Valley Conference’s player of the year. Second team all-state. Committed to East Carolina.

Addison Torain, Metea Valley, senior, outside hitter: Had 265 kills, 140 digs, 40 aces, 25 blocks and 13 assists. All-conference. Committed to Winthrop.

Sam Vanda, Geneva, senior, right-side hitter: Had 356 kills, 208 digs, 38 aces and 36 blocks. Two-time all-conference. Committed to Milwaukee.

Charlee Young, Yorkville, senior, outside hitter: Had 259 kills, 186 digs and 42 aces. All-conference. Committed to Trevecca Nazarene.

Second Team

Grace Bach, South Elgin, senior, middle hitter: Had team-high 114 kills and 51 blocks. All-conference.

McKenna Bremner, Batavia, senior, setter/right-side hitter: Had 316 assists, 193 kills, 187 digs, 40 aces and 27 blocks. All-conference. Academic all-state.

Naomi Dowd, Waubonsie Valley, senior, outside hitter: Had 203 kills and 30 blocks. All-conference. Committed to Northern Illinois.

Paige Genke, South Elgin, junior, setter: Had 300 assists, 55 kills, 35 aces and 27 blocks. All-conference.

Breanna Hard, Aurora Christian, senior, setter: Had 628 assists, 170 digs and 62 aces. All-conference.

Elizabeth King, Hampshire, junior, outside hitter/middle hitter: Had 270 kills and Fox Valley Conference-best 78 aces. All-conference.

Adrianna Larson, Newark, senior, outside hitter: Had team-high 279 kills. Added 239 digs, 35 aces and 21 blocks. All-conference.

Rita Lauro, Plano, senior, setter/right-side hitter: Had 275 assists, 218 digs, 109 kills, 54 aces and 37 blocks. All-conference.

Jorah Rutter, Hampshire, senior, setter: Had 258 assists and 217 kills. All-conference. Committed to Eastern Illinois.

Martyna Sowiak, Bartlett, senior, middle hitter: Had 136 kills, 71 digs, 53 blocks and 44 aces. Upstate Eight West’s player of the year. Committed to Western Illinois.

Olivia Stewart, Metea Valley, junior, middle hitter: Had 179 kills, 66 blocks, 17 digs and five assists. All-conference.

Fiona Turnbull, Geneva, senior, middle hitter: Had 262 kills, 49 blocks and 42 aces. All-conference. Committed to Georgetown.
