Introducing the 2024 News-Sun Softball All-Area Team

Antioch’s Jacey Schuler leads the all-area team.

FIRST TEAM

Hannah Conger, Warren, senior, shortstop: Hit .348 with nine home runs, 29 RBIs, 31 runs scored and eight stolen bases. Conference offensive player of the year, Class 4A all-state first team. Committed to Wisconsin.

Claire Connelly, Mundelein, junior, first baseman: Hit .541 with 14 home runs, 71 RBIs and 57 runs scored for state semifinalist. All-conference, Class 4A all-state second team.

Morgan Hart, Vernon Hills, senior, shortstop/pitcher: Hit .482 with four home runs, 47 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. All-conference, Class 3A all-state third team.

Taylor Higham, Libertyville, sophomore, pitcher/outfielder: Went 12-10 with a 2.65 ERA and a single-season, program-record 197 strikeouts. Also hit .443 with two home runs and 27 RBIs. All-conference, Class 4A all-state second team.

Shae Johnson, Mundelein, sophomore, pitcher: Went 25-3 with a 2.15 ERA and 315 strikeouts in 178 2/3 innings for state semifinalist. Also hit .426 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs. Conference pitcher of the year, Class 4A all-state first team.

Eliza Piggott, Grayslake Central, senior, catcher: Hit .463 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 55 RBIs and 44 runs scored. All-conference, Class 3A all-state second team. Committed to Evansville.

Lesleigh Reimers, Wauconda, senior, pitcher/first baseman: Went 11-4 with a 2.34 ERA and 128 strikeouts. Also hit .304 with 30 RBIs and 18 runs scored. All-conference. Committed to Mount St. Joseph.

Jacey Schuler, Antioch, senior, pitcher: Went 23-4 with a 1.54 ERA and 321 strikeouts in 172 innings for state runner-up. Also hit .523 with 11 home runs, including two grand slams, and 44 RBIs. Conference player of the year, Class 3A all-state first team. Committed to Michigan State.

Amanda Turofsky, Stevenson, senior, catcher: Hit .408 with eight doubles and 31 RBIs. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Alyssa Vodicka, Wauconda, senior, shortstop/pitcher: Hit .365 with two home runs, 24 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Also went 3-5 with a 2.54 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings. All-conference.

SECOND TEAM

Emma Andrews, Grayslake Central, junior, shortstop: Hit .421 with nine home runs, 31 RBIs and 40 runs scored. All-conference, Class 3A all-state second team.

Cassidy Berchtold, Lakes, senior, pitcher: Went 12-6 with a 2.43 ERA and 166 strikeouts. All-conference, Class 3A all-state second team. Committed to Fort Lewis.

Emma Carney, Carmel, senior, catcher: Hit .411 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. All-conference. Committed to Hillsdale.

Sam Hillner, Antioch, sophomore, third baseman: Hit .340 with four home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored for state runner-up. All-conference.

Zoe Kinsella, Libertyville, junior, shortstop: Hit .346 with three home runs and 28 RBIs. All-conference, Class 4A all-state third team.

Jasmine Lucero, Stevenson, freshman, shortstop: Hit .480 with 14 doubles, five home runs, 35 RBIs and 43 runs scored. All-conference.

Jadynn Ruiz, Antioch, sophomore, second baseman: Hit .352 with 22 RBIs, 32 runs scored and 10 stolen bases for state runner-up. All-conference.

Alyssa Shimanski, Stevenson, sophomore, outfielder: Hit .436 with 11 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 21 RBIs, 47 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. All-conference.

Alyssa Threde, Wauconda, junior, utility player: Hit .392 with two home runs, 21 RBIs, 38 runs scored and nine stolen bases. All-conference.

Kieley Tomas, Mundelein, sophomore, outfielder: Hit .504 with 60 runs scored and 35 stolen bases for state semifinalist. All-conference, Class 4A all-state second team.
