Judy Belushi Pisano, who spent years protecting the legacy of her late husband, John Belushi — and was also an actress and producer in her own right — died Friday at the age of 73, following a long battle with cancer.
Her death was confirmed on the official John Belushi Instagram account, with a heartfelt tribute on Saturday that included multiple photos of her with the legendary comedian.
“Today, our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our sweet Judy,” the caption read. “Her unwavering dedication and creative genius alongside Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi gave birth to The Blues Brothers, a timeless testament to the power of music and laughter.”
“In the years following John’s passing in 1982, Judy honored his life and championed his legacy and Blues Brothers brand,” the post added.
She was also helping to develop “The Blues Brothers” into a TV series in recent years, according to IMDb.
Born and raised in Wheaton, Illinois, Judy first met Belushi while they were both in high school. The two wed in 1976, and remained together until his death from a drug overdose in 1982.
In the mid-1970s, Judy worked as a radio producer in New York City while John’s career began taking off with the Second City comedy troupe and his casting in the inaugural season of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975.
Judy had uncredited appearances in both “Animal House” (1978) and “The Blues Brothers” (1980).
In 1990, she married film producer Victor Pisano, though the marriage ended in divorce in 2010.
Judy spent most of her later years on Martha’s Vineyard, where Belushi is buried.
According to local outlet MV Times, Judy was active on the island and often hosted “Blues Brothers” events to raise money for community organizations.
