John Fogerty, the principal writer and front man for the iconic band Creedence Clearwater Revival, who has also had a very successful solo career, will perform Wednesday, July 31, at RiverEdge Park in Aurora, officials announced Friday.
Tickets are now on sale for the show, which will begin at 8 p.m. All tickets for the concert are $60. VIP packages are available for $209.
Jim Jarvis, chief marketing and programming officer for RiverEdge Park, said that coordinating the logistics of the last-minute addition to the venue’s summer lineup and publicizing the event scheduled for July 31 “is a wonderful problem to have.”
“This may be subjective, but in looking back on (Fogerty’s) last performance here on July 14, 2017, I’ve thought about it and talked with other people and that show was probably in the top three of the concerts we’ve had here,” Jarvis said.
Jarvis said organizers reached out to Fogerty’s people over six months ago and that “the routing at that time just wasn’t working out.”
“Most of these artists that travel don’t want to be more than four to five hours away from their next stop and, at the time, things just didn’t work out,” Jarvis said. “We recently learned that Fogerty is playing up in Milwaukee either before or after our date and his people reached out to us and said that he could come here midweek if that was still a possibility. A lot of it is what works for their dates and how they space them out with the routing. Most bands don’t want to drive more than five hours.”
Regarding Fogerty’s last performance at RiverEdge Park, Jarvis said that “he puts on an amazing show. He sounded great.”
“People just had an absolute blast,” Jarvis said.
Jarvis said that last-minute additions “have happened before” at the venue including previous concerts featuring Kiss and Boston.
“Every couple of years things just happen this way and it ends up being fine,” he said. “We always look at it, there is a certain level of artist that we’re comfortable with and when there’s a late addition and we know we can sell it – CCR and Fogerty are so popular. It’s classic rock and we think it all works together for us to put this show on, even on a Wednesday night. It’s going to be a fun way to spend the evening.”
