Joshua Holst becomes more than a 2-way star. Air Force commit and Libertyville teammates are state champions.

Libertyville senior Joshua Holst has been a two-way star throughout the season, and that didn’t change in the Class 4A state championship game on Saturday night.

The Air Force commit allowed just one run on two hits and produced all the support he needed with three RBIs as the Wildcats defeated McHenry 4-1 in Joliet to win their first state title.

Senior shortstop Cole Lockwood, a Valparaiso commit, added two hits and two runs scored for Libertyville (36-4), which was the state runner-up in the single-class era in 1976 and in 4A in 2013 in two previous appearances in championship games.

Lockwood led off the first inning with a triple and scored to give Holst an early lead against the Warriors (36-5-1).
