Kane County Health Department to offer health care worker training on opioid use treatment

Local health care providers interested in expanding their offering of addiction care can attend a training session hosted by the Kane County Health Department in April, Kane County announced in a news release recently.

The training – which will be held virtually from noon to 2 p.m. on April 18 – will instruct providers in prescribing buprenorphine for patients with opioid use disorder, the release said. It will also cover the legal, ethical and documentation requirements for prescribing this medication and discuss confidentiality protocols and additional supportive services.

It’s open to physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who work in Kane County, the release said. Participants will be compensated for completing the training.

The training will be led by physicians, including Dr. Stephen Holtsford of Northwestern Medicine’s Valley Emergency Care Management in Geneva and Dr. Diana Bottari of Advocate Medical Group in Aurora, according to the release.

“Many health care providers want to help patients with opioid use disorder but don’t always know where to start,” Holtsford said in the news release. “This training provides practical knowledge, breaks down stigma and helps participants feel confident in prescribing buprenorphine as part of their practice.”
