Merrillville man charged with attempted rape
A Merrillville man is facing an attempted rape charge after inappropriately touching a sleeping woman.
Sergio Mayorga-Rostran, 30, was also charged Tuesday with sexual battery.
He posted a $4,000 cash bond Wednesday.
The victim told police she went to another woman’s home in Hobart on Nov. 1 to help put a bed together for a child. She, the woman and the child fell asleep on the bed by 1 a.m.
Around 5:30 a.m., the woman woke up to Mayorga-Rostran touching her under the blankets, the affidavit states.
She “froze,” according to court documents.
“What are you doing,” she demanded.
“(She’s) hot,” he told the other woman.
“Don’t escalate this (by calling the cops),” he told the victim.
Gary man’s latest drug dealing charges
A Gary man faces his latest busts for drug dealing.
Shaquille Hughes, 30, of Gary was charged on Nov. 2 and Nov. 6.
In the Nov. 6 case, after getting tipped from Hughes’ jail call, cops found just over 250 grams of cocaine, $1,900 in cash and 44 live bullets on Nov. 4 in a storage unit on the 6600 block of Columbia Avenue in Hammond.
In the earlier case, during a Nov. 1 traffic stop, a Gary police officer found fentanyl, crack cocaine and marijuana; alprazolam, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills; and a scale with cocaine residue, a gun and three cellphones in his car.
He is charged between the two cases with 18 felonies, including four counts of Level 2 felonies related to drug dealing. Court filings appear to show Hughes has a half-dozen pending drug dealing or possession cases in Lake County.
