A convicted felon was arrested by Zion police after he allegedly threatened people with a gun at a party.

Deangelo Cooper, 37, of Joliet, was arrested by officers who responded to the 2400 block of Joanna Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday, March 17.

Police said Cooper was outside the residence and attempted to re-enter when police arrived. Cooper allegedly ran to the back of the residence, but officers were able to take him into custody.

He was carrying a semi-automatic pistol with a defaced serial number, police said, along with additional bullets in a cigar package wrapper.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group arrested a Waukegan man recently on drug trafficking charges.

Terrance D. Hill, 35, of the 700 block of Helmholz, was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance after he was arrested Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office said it received a tip in late 2023 that Hill was selling methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine. Detectives recovered over 3,600 fentanyl pills, nearly 30 grams of meth, and nearly 40 grams of cocaine during the operation, police said.

“The hard work of our Special Investigations Group resulted in over 3,600 pills of deadly fentanyl being removed from our community, leading to countless lives being saved from overdose.  We will be relentless in our investigations and arrests of drug traffickers and gun traffickers operating in Lake County,” Sheriff John D. A 17-year-old Beach Park youth who robbed an undercover officer at gunpoint and two alleged accomplices were arrested recently in Beach Park, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident took place March 15 when the undercover officer met the youth in a parking lot on Sheridan Road to purchase a gun, police said. Instead of selling the detective the gun, the youth reportedly pointed it at the officer, racked the slide and threatened to shoot the detectives unless he gave the youth his money.

The officer handed over the cash and the youth fled on foot. Numerous other officers converged and the youth was arrested after a brief chase. Police also arrested two people, a 16-year-old Kenosha youth and a 22-year-old Beach Park man, who were acting as the youth’s lookouts. Both were armed with semi-automatic pistols that had been converted to fire in fully automatic mode like a machine gun, police said.

Police recovered another firearm after obtaining a warrant and searching the 17-year-old’s home.

“I cannot stress enough how thankful I am that none of our staff was injured in this incident. We will work with the state’s attorney’s office to ensure this violent teen and his accomplices are held accountable for their actions,” Sheriff John Idleburg said.

The trio are facing armed robbery and other weapons charges.
